My Dear Readers,
As a fan of Castile Soap, you know that Castile soap is a versatile and eco-friendly product that has gained popularity in recent years. Made from natural ingredients like olive oil, it is renowned for its gentle cleansing properties and usability from your shower stalls to your selves! We often get asked how long it lasts and the best storage options to maximize its longevity. With the warm summer weather coming, I'd like to talk about different factors that influence the shelf life of Whole Naturals Castile soap and provide helpful tips for storage.
How long does Castile Soap Last? Does Castile Soap Have an Expiry Date?
Unlike food or cosmetics, Castile Soap does not have - nor need - an expiry date. Because Castile soap doesn’t contain any artificial chemicals or additives, it typically has a shelf life of about 2 years from the manufacturer's date. If you're looking for how to decipher the production date that is on each bottle, you can read one my previous posts that will thoroughly explain it. But are there factors that can affect its shelf life?
Factors Affecting the Shelf Life:
Indoor Weather Conditions:
Temperature: Extreme temperatures can affect the texture and quality of Castile soap. It's best to store it in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and heat sources. Drastic temperature changes, such as placing it near a heater or air conditioner, can lead to spoilage or drying out of the soap.
Humidity: High humidity levels can cause Castile soap to absorb moisture, potentially leading to mold growth. Fun fact: Louisiana, New Orleans is the city that's can claim to have the highest percentage of humidity from the entire continental US.
Tips for Storing Castile Soap:
Keep it Dry: Ensure the soap remains dry throughout its use. After each use, wipe off excess moisture from the bottle or dispenser to prevent the accumulation of water on the soap.
Avoid Contamination: Keep the soap away from contaminants like dirt, dust, and bacteria. Ensure the container or dispenser is clean before transferring the soap into it. Avoid touching the inside of the container with dirty hands or wet utensils.
Prepare in Small Batches. When add ingredients (like aloe vera, glycerin, etc.) to customizing your Castile Soap experience, make it batches that will be used within 1-2 months.
Store in a Cool, Dark Place: Choose a storage location that is cool, dry, and away from direct sunlight. A bathroom cabinet or pantry shelf are suitable options. If the soap is exposed to heat or sunlight for extended periods, its quality and effectiveness may be compromised.
We love hearing your questions about the care and keeping of Whole Naturals! Keep 'em coming!
