Is Earth Day Important?

Dear Friends and Fellow Cleaning Enthusiasts,

My social media feed is filled with messages like, "How will you celebrate earth day?" or "Making Earth Day Meaningful, one Planet at a time." With these headlines, some immediate questions pop into my my mind:

  1. Is earth day important, and if yes, how can I make it meaningful?

  2. Does a calendar date impact our behaviors?

  3. How did this day even get assigned?

It's probably easy to understand why, at Whole Naturals, we are conscientious about the earth. After all, our Castile Soap is biodegradable, and as the first Castile Soap Company to be certified Palm Oil free, we pay attention to our environmental footprint.

How Did Earth Day Come to Be?

Did you know: In 1969 a devastating oil spill off the coast of Santa Barbara released over 3 million gallons of crude oil into the ocean. This disaster sparked outrage, and sparked millions of Americans to support and initiate environmental protection efforts.

In Early 1970,  Gaylord Nelson a senator from Wisconsin, but more notably an environmentalist, was moved by the nation's efforts and began a grassroots movement to inform, educate and encourage Americans to take responsibility for their environment.

On April 22, 1970, Senator Nelson and his team organized the first Earth Day, mobilizing an estimated 20 million Americans from all walks of life to participate in rallies, teach-ins, and clean-up activities across the country. The event was an unprecedented display of public support for environmental action and helped to elevate environmental issues onto the national agenda.

Earth Day 1970 marked the beginning of a new era of environmental activism and consciousness in the United States. In the wake of the first Earth Day, Congress passed a series of landmark environmental laws, including the Clean Air Act, the Clean Water Act, and the Endangered Species Act, which laid the foundation for environmental protection in the country.

Since its inception, Earth Day has grown into a global phenomenon, with millions of people in over 190 countries participating in activities to promote environmental awareness, conservation, and sustainability. The observance of Earth Day continues to serve as a powerful reminder of the importance of protecting and preserving our planet for future generations.

Earth Day Cleaning Challenge!

So, this Earth Day, let's put the power of Whole Naturals Castile soap to the test! Here's a fun challenge to get you started:

  1. Declutter a Room: Before you start cleaning, take a good look around and see what you can donate, sell, or recycle. Reducing clutter automatically reduces the need for excessive cleaning products. (take a peek at my decluttering tips from a few weeks ago).

  2. DIY Cleaning with Castile Soap: Whip up some amazing all-purpose cleaner by mixing castile soap with water and essential oils of your choice (lavender for a calming scent, lemon for a refreshing clean, the options are endless!).

  3. Clean Green: Tackle your chosen room with your DIY castile soap solution. You'll be surprised at how effective and gentle it is on surfaces!

  4. Sustainable Swaps: Look for ways to incorporate other eco-friendly habits into your cleaning routine. Use reusable cloths instead of paper towels, opt for vinegar solutions for tough jobs, and air-dry dishes whenever possible.

Small Steps, Big Impact

This Earth Day, let's celebrate our planet by making small but impactful changes in our cleaning routines. By embracing castile soap and vegan cleaning options, we can create sparkling homes while leaving a lighter footprint on the Earth.

Remember, even the smallest steps can create a ripple effect. So, grab your Castile soap, put on your favorite tunes, and get cleaning with the planet in mind! Happy Earth Day!

Cheers!
