Clean and Green: DIY Reusable Wipes with Concentrated Castile Soap and Essential Oils

Whole Naturals Castile Soap reusable Wipes

My Dear Readers & Cleaning Enthusiasts,

I often talk about the DIY recipes for our Whole Naturals Castile Soap, and am always enthusiastic about trying out new things (including making playdough for the offspring!!) What’s not so new, but often not talked about is what type of towels or rags you use when cleaning. We are fans of the square, cotton or microfiber cleaning towels, and we buy the smallish size - about 8" x 8". I buy them in a large pack, and they are just so easy to use, and easy to launder. But lately, we’ve been playing around with using these towels as ready-to-use (and reusable) WIPES – as an alternative to disposable wipes.

Let’s take a planet-friendly journey where I’ll show you how to create DIY reusable wipes using concentrated Castile soap and essential oils. Not only will you be reducing waste, but you'll also be keeping your home squeaky clean and smelling like a fragrant oasis. Let's dive in!

Why Go Reusable? Embrace the Eco Revolution!

Before we unleash our inner mad scientists and concoct the perfect reusable wipes, let's take a moment to appreciate why reusable is the way to go. Disposable wipes may be convenient, but they create a monstrous pile of waste that refuses to decompose. Equally as important is the fact that I feel the need to wear gloves when using wipes, or other cleaning materials with harsh chemicals. So, let's put our hands together (washed, with no gloves of course!) and opt for a safer, greener and cleaner solution. "DIY reusable wipes" and "eco-friendly cleaning" are my favorite combination of phrases! Are you ready? It's time for us to create a cleaning masterpiece that'll leave your home sparkling.

Ingredients for DIY Reusable Cleaning Wipes:

  • 1 cup of Water

  • 2 tablespoons of Whole Naturals

  • 10-15 drops of Essential Oil: Get creative with your scent selection!* Your home will smell like a fancy spa retreat, and your neighbors will be jealous.

Instructions:

Mix It Like You Mean It!

Now, it's time for some shake, rattle, and roll! Cap that container and give it a vigorous shake, just like you're dancing to your favorite tunes. Oh, and don't worry if you break into some awkward dance moves; cleaning can be fun and funny too!

With your reusable wipes soaked in this magical potion, you're armed and ready conquer kitchen spills and bathroom messes with ease! If you find the wipes appear dry, or that liquid has evaporated, we suggest adding a bit of warm water. And of course, when finished, these go into our regular laundry. A set of 20 seems to get us through about a week’s worth of regular kitchen cleaning.

Why do I love adding Essential Oils?

Did you know that lemon oil can wipe away stubborn stains, just like it wipes away your worries? And lavender oil doesn't just smell heavenly; it's also a natural stress-reliever! So, while you're cleaning, you're also getting an aromatherapy session. Double the benefits, double the fun!

I often get asked for a recommendation of my favorite brand of essential oils. Although I use different blends, if you’re looking for the best EO, I suggest visiting the websites of reputable organizations such as the Environmental Working Group (EWG) and Organic Certifiers. They often provide databases or lists of certified organic and EWG verified brands that you can explore. These certifications can help guarantee the authenticity and purity of the products you purchase. If you use those parameters for your search, I'm positive you'll find the best one that works for you!

While our DIY reusable wipes are safe for most surfaces, always do a spot test before going full throttle on your cleaning spree. Additionally, if you find yourself smiling and laughing uncontrollably while cleaning, that's just the side effect of using eco-friendly solutions!

Congratulations, DIY cleaning wizards! You've crafted your very own reusable wipes that are gentle on the environment and tough on dirt.

Cheers!
